Control sets the pull shape
Mage and Paladin can keep a difficult pull controlled. Polymorph and Paladin durability handle packs that would overwhelm a solo character. Mage needs range, and Paladin sets a steady pace.
The pull plan
Mage shapes the room early with slows, Polymorph, and controlled burst. Paladin decides whether the current pull is stable enough to continue or whether the group needs to slow down.
Use it in controlled rooms
Alliance routes with caster packs that reward early crowd control.
Deadmines, Shadowfang Keep, and other dungeons where line of sight and patience decide the room.
Elite quests where one player stabilizes the pull while the other keeps pressure on the target.
Add a control tool
Engineering on Mage adds dummies and bombs to the control plan. Paladin can take Alchemy, Blacksmithing, or Mining based on whether the route needs sustain, a gear upgrade path, or more Engineering support.
Alliance routes
Human, Dwarf, and Gnome routes fit this pair naturally. Buildings, patrols, and caster rooms reward careful positioning and short pull plans.
Avoid large AoE pulls
Do not turn a stable pair into a large AoE pull. Keep one target controlled and leave room for the reset.
Slow the next room
Slow down when Mage is already kiting or Paladin has spent major support to stabilize the pull. Simplify the next room before control falls behind.
Keep control ahead
The pair works when Mage controls early and Paladin keeps the pace measured. Return to that plan after every difficult pull.
