Discipline

Priest

Priest feels safe with its shield, wand, and heals.

HEALER DPS

The safety comes from having time to decide. Shield before the first hit, let the wand work once Shadow Word Pain is active, and keep enough mana to heal before panic takes over.

Talent route preview

Full 10-60 route

Spend the first five points in Shadow for Spirit Tap, then build Discipline through Wand Specialization, Improved Power Word Shield, Mental Agility, and Power Infusion at 45. Spend the remaining points in Shadow.

Leveling approach

Use Power Word Shield before the first hit, apply Shadow Word Pain, and let the wand carry the rest of an ordinary fight. Cast Smite when the target needs to die before reaching you. Give Spirit Tap time to restore mana before drinking, refresh Inner Fire between pulls, and keep Lesser Heal for harder fights.

Stat priority

  1. Wand DPS - replace it the way a Hunter replaces the bow
  2. Spirit
  3. Stamina
  4. Intellect
  5. Spell power on a few key slots

Professions

  • Take Tailoring with Enchanting for the early wand and a self-contained cloth route. Turn spare drops into materials for the next useful craft.
  • Take Engineering with Mining when a pull can grow too large for Psychic Scream. Drop Target Dummy into the extra mob's path and move before choosing the next cast.
  • First Aid lets you bandage around two-thirds health and keep mana available for the next problem.
  • Carry mana potions for fights where the Priest cannot secure a killing blow and trigger Spirit Tap.

Alliance races

Dwarf - Fear can scatter a dungeon group into the rest of the room. A Dwarf Priest can prevent one with Fear Ward and clear a bleed, poison, or disease through Stoneform.
Human - The Human Spirit bonus fits a shield-and-wand route that depends on steady recovery between pulls.

Horde races

Undead - An Undead Priest can break Fear or Charm with Will of the Forsaken, then use Cannibalize after a humanoid fight and save mana for the next pull.
Troll - A difficult pull sometimes comes down to one heal landing in time. Troll can use Berserking for that cast.

Route rhythm by level band

1-12 Before the wand carries

Buy or craft a Lesser Magic Wand as early as possible and use small Smite casts before it is ready. Train Power Word Shield at 6 for harder fights, then replace the first wand with Greater Magic Wand at 13.

12-24 The cheap loop

Put Power Word Shield and Shadow Word Pain on the pull, then let the stronger wand finish it. Use Mind Blast when damage needs to arrive quickly and keep Psychic Scream for open ground. Spirit Tap rewards the killing blow and reduces how often you drink.

24-40 Utility arrives

In dungeons, use Dispel Magic and Cure Disease before the healer is forced to recover the same damage twice. Use Fade after healing draws threat. Cast Mana Burn after the tank has secured the pull and the group has time to control the caster. Dungeon gear can carry the healing set through this bracket.

40-60 Caster density

Power Infusion at 45 strengthens spell damage and healing for fifteen seconds, so use it before the emergency heal or damage window begins. Caster packs become more common after 50. Choose routes where elites remain optional and Psychic Scream has clear ground.

Also worth trying: Shadow

With Shadowform at 40, spend more of each pull casting and less time wanding. Use Vampiric Embrace during the damage sequence and leave Shadowform before a holy heal is needed.

  • Mind Flay slows the target during the channel, giving you more time before the fight reaches melee.
  • Heal before entering Shadowform. Once shifted, you gain Shadow damage and physical damage reduction while losing access to holy spells.
  • Vampiric Embrace returns 20% of your Shadow spell damage to the party as healing.

Discipline Priest Survival: Protect the Mana Draft

Full page →

Discipline Priest survives by preserving mana, fearing in open ground, and staying with a group that waits for the shield.

Get-out order

  • When a second mob joins, shield before it reaches you. Leave if mana cannot cover both.

  • Psychic Scream belongs on open ground. Caves and ledges can recruit the next pack.

  • Power Infusion at 45 strengthens spell damage and healing for fifteen seconds. Use it before the emergency window begins.

  • Fade after healing draws threat in a group, giving the tank time to take the mob back.

Mana mistakes

  • Smite can stay off the bar when the wand is already finishing the mob.

  • Drinking before Spirit Tap fires wastes the recovery window.

Dungeon calls

  • If the tank pulls before the shield, call it once and leave if it happens again.

  • If the group expects Greater Heal spam, state the mana limit before the next pull.

  • If Mage skips sheep or Rogue skips Sap, ask for control before the next pull.

Leave now

  • Call the retreat when mana falls below 30% with the pull open.

  • Leave the pull when two casters reach range while Shield is cooling down.

  • Leave the pull if Psychic Scream recruits the next pack.

  • Call the retreat when the tank falls below 30% and instant heals are gone.
